Getting stains or odors out of your cloth diapers.

How do you get stains and/or smells out of your cloth diapers with out all the chemicals ???

I have NEVER put bleach, stain remover etc anything on my cloth diapers.

It’s not good for them and I wouldn’t want that on my little ones behind.

The sun!!!! Let me tell you the sun is magic! Put your diapers outside for a few and they will come back good as new. Now if it’s super cold outside and your diapers are wet you don’t want to put them outside because they will freeze… Ask me how I know…

So just put them by a window and it will work just as good . Here is a photo of one that I put outside for around 2 hours.

As you can see the sun took the stain away!

We love Nora’s Nursery diapers!!

How to naturally get odor out of your diapers or inserts.

If you have a diaper or a insert that has a odor to it even after you’ve washed them. You could buy some expensive “cloth diaper” stuff or you could just use baking soda and lemon essential oil!

So if you only have one or two I would just put them in the sink if you have a lot I would put them in the bathtub.

All you need to do is sprinkle a little bit of baking soda over them and add a few drops of lemon to them let them sit for a little bit and that’s it!!

I left a dirty diaper at my parents house and didn’t know about it.. It was outside for about 3 weeks.. You can just picture how bad it smelt!

I washed it twice and it still had a smell to it, So I put it in the sink with a little bit of baking soda and lemon oil and left it for about 20 minutes and the smell was gone!!

Super easy! And it Does not cost a lot and you are not putting all those chemicals on your little ones behind!!

I hope this has been helpful for you! 🙂

  1. Hello, I have heard that baking soda will render your washer out of warranty and also that too much baking soda can leave a filler on your diapers. How would I go about doing a large batch on my diapers? Would this work in the bath tub? And how much ? Thank you in advance!

    1. For a large batch I would use my tub. Or a tote outside if you didn’t want to do it in your tub.
I haven’t done more then twice at a time so far. And I just grab some baking soda then put two-three drops of lemon in the water let it set for a few minutes then wash the diaper before I put it in the wash.

I would just sprinkle the baking soda all over your diapers in till you think it’s enough. And add 10-12 drops of lemon oil for a whole tub.

  2. Great article! Thank you for sharing so much wonderful information. One question, when you say to leave them in the sun to remove the stains, is that before or after running them through the wash?
